Capstone Course: Health and Environmental Science Careers A/B
Food Science (Introductory: G Science Elective)
This course will introduce students to food by evaluating the health impacts of various lifestyles from the unhealthy to sustainable. Students will discuss the relationships between food, nutrition, health, culture, and our environment. Each student is given an area in the garden where they have the opportunity to grow, cultivate, and harvest their crops. Students learn how to prepare their own food and the nutritional properties and health benefits of eating healthy. Students will explore problems including world food supply, food access, food security, agriculture, food production, and food safety.
Physiology (Concentrator: G Science Elective)
This course covers principles of human anatomy and physiology, including basic chemistry, cell and tissue studies, and an overview of all body systems. Upon completion, students should be able to identify structures and functions of the human body and describe how lifestyle and environment affect a person’s health and assess their risk for disease.
Health and Environmental Science Careers I (Capstone)
Students will take an in depth look at health and environmental careers. Students work with teachers to find intern or mentorships in a health profession of interest. Students’ career exploration will be enhanced by visits from guest speakers and student projects. Students are trained in First Aid and CPR. They showcase their work and demonstrate leadership at our annual spring Health and Fitness Fair.
