UNIVERSITY HIGH PARENT-TEACHER-STUDENT ASSOCIATION
The University High Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA) has been part of our school community since the school opened in 1924. The University High PTSA is part of the Los Angeles, California and National PTAs, which work for the education, health, welfare and safety of all children and youth.
Over the past several years, our PTSA has supported school and student activities like registration, orientation, Back-to-School Night, Red Ribbon Week, College Fair, History day, Career Day, Open House and Uni Gras. The PTSA solicits parents to volunteer for these activities and to assist at the school whenever and wherever needed.
In addition, the PTSA sponsors Reflections, an annual arts recognition and achievement program for students; the school’s annual Book Fair; Teacher Appreciation Week in May and other teacher appreciation activities throughout the school year; and Grad Nite at Disneyland in June. The PTSA provides Senior Scholarships for Continuing Education and publicizes the opportunity for graduating seniors, which are available from the California State PTA.
Programs at PTSA meetings have included speakers on the college admission process, prejudice and discrimination, financial literacy and financial aid for college, infection control, raising academic standards, suicide prevention, LAUSD’s bond measures and how they affect our school and mental health issues of concern to parents and students. From time to time, the PTSA has assisted students in economic need with clothing and class fees.
